Happy 70th Aunty Margaret!

Yesterday my lovely great-Aunt turned 70.  We had a great night out last night and this is the card I made for her.  Aunty Marg had asked for no presents, so I didn’t buy a present, instead I made her a little scrapbook album – somewhere she could put her photos in from the night.  You’ll have to check back tomorrow to see the album!

I used the stamp set A Rose is a Rose.  Seriously, my favourite stamp set in the catty.  The “70” comes from the stamp set Best Friends Numbers (retired).

I really love this colour combo – Kiwi Kiss, So Saffron and Pumpkin Pie.  How pretty is the rose?

And of course, I have to use textured cardstock for really special cards.  Aunty Marg is a very special person, so it goes without saying, I used textured cardstock.  Plus, I must have embellishments!  I used the Pretties Kit, So Saffron ribbon (unavailable) and Kiwi Kiss corduroy buttons (unavailable).

And this was the insert.  Again, the stamp set A Rose is a Rose, but then I stamped Sincere Salutations for the salutation.  I added a different colour in here.  I wonder if you can tell me which colours I used for the insert?

Thanks for looking 🙂

A Rose is a Rose Birthday

This was a special card I made last year for my MIL’s birthday.

It’s made with only two stamp sets, A Rose is a Rose and Sincere Salutations.

I used the colours Very Vanilla, Riding Hood Red and So Saffron.  And, of course, the card stock is textured card stock.  I love this colour combo!  And again, my fav ribbon that isn’t available anymore 😦

Jayne Mercer’s Girls’ Night In Cyberstamp – Challenge #1

On the weekend, my fabulous up-upline ran a Girls’ Night In Cyberstamp to help raise money for Breast Cancer Reasearch.  Jayne runs cyberstamps for her team members every month, but this event was opened up to anyone who wanted to participate, anywhere in the world!  Plus, Jayne hosted the event at her home as well for guests to attend.  What a super effort by Jayne, in my opinion.  Well done!  You can check out the results of her fundraising efforts here.  And you can see Jayne’s blog here.  Plus, you can see all the other entries here.

So, our first challenge was to find a card in the Idea Book & Catalogue or Spring Mini that we liked and to turn it pink. We could substitute other stamp sets too. So it was really the card layout we followed.  I chose the “Congratulations” card from page 47 of the Idea Book & Catalogue:

I used the stamp sets Friends 24-7 and A Rose is a Rose.  The pinks are Pink Pirouette, Regal Rose and Rose Red.

Next challenge up soon!

Bella Rose Purse

It was my sister’s birthday on the 17th (just gone) and I had made this purse for her gift.  Lee lives on the Gold Coast, so she doesn’t see us very often and I thought a couple of pictures of us would be nice for her to have.  So I spied this bag on the net made by Gretchen Barron (thanks for the super inspiration!!) and I then altered the measurements of the purse to fit my photos.  The purse, or handbag, was perfect for my sister as she loves bags!

I used textured cardstock for the entire card, except for the Bella Rose Designer Series Paper and the thin panels on the inside of the purse.  The paper colours are Basic Black, Pink Pirouette and Whisper White.

The stamp set I used is a Rose is a Rose and it was stamped using Pink Pirouette, Rose Red, Old Olive and Kiwi Kiss.  The coordinating wheel, Bella’s Border was used on the thin panels.  Of course, the coordinating Pink Pirouette striped grosgrain ribbon worked perfectly for the handle and the Kiwi Kiss satin ribbon on the front of the purse coordinated with the rose leaves inside the purse.

The Eyelet Border punch helped layer the photos and decorate the front of the purse.  Plus, the other punches I used to layer the two sentiments to the purse were the Scallop Circle, Designer Label, Large Oval,  Oval and Scallop Oval.

The sentiment stamp sets I used were Sincere Salutations and Short & Sweet.  A rhinestone brad and Pink Flower Designer brad helped decorate the sentiments.  And, for the final decorations, on the front of the purse I used a Button Bouquet Designer Button and a gorgeous Stampin’ Up! clip at the top of the purse.  And I paper pierced the strip of Textured Pink Pirouette cardstock.

And a Happy Mother’s Day to all

I hope you have all had a lovely day for Mother’s Day, doing whatever is special to you 🙂  My mother-in-law and brother-in-law came around for breakfast this morning and the men cooked up a wonderful brunch, all the better because I was not in the kitchen!  I’m really excited to start reading my present too … Twilight!!  There’s been so much interest in this book and the movie was spellbinding, I’m really curious to see the writing that has inspired so many … and as a closet fantasy writer, I’m sure to learn a lot!

Anyway, back to card making!!  This is the card I made for my mother-in-law, using the stamp sets A Rose is a Rose, Friends 24-7 and Wonderful Favourites.  I really love the way A Rose is a Rose and Friends 24-7 goes together in this card.  They could be from the same stamp set!!  The roses are two-step stamped in Real Red and Bravo Burgundy and the petals are in Old Olive and Always Artichoke.  I wanted a really soft effect for my Damask image from the Friends 24-7 stamp set, so it has been stamped off in Old Olive.DSC00862

The papers I’ve used are Bravo Burgundy, Old Olive, Whisper White and Whisper White textured (for the large background).  The ribbon across the middle of the card is Bravo Burgundy wide grosgrain and I’ve used the Eyelet border punch for the detail along the bottom of the card.  There are three of the big white half pearls from the Pretties Kit in the top right hand corner.  The sentiment ‘Wonderful Mother’ has been stamped in Bravo Burgundy using the stamp set Wonderful Favourites – what a great set this is, so versatile!

And most exciting of all to me … like a card maker’s mother’s day present … was the chance to use the Build-a-Brad on this card, for the first time!!  I’ve punched out a rose bud from the Bella Rose DSP (part of the scrapbooker’s special this month!!) and the adhered it to the brad, stuck on the so-cool acrylic bubble and then attached it to the centre of the Damask image.

And a card wouldn’t be a card without Dazzling Diamonds, would it?!  I’ve added DD using Crystal Effects on the roses.
