Masculine Newsprint/Lovely as a Tree

This is another masculine birthday card – this one for my new BIL 🙂

I was inspired by this lovely manly card here on Splitcoaststampers.  Thanks mwben!  So, for my card, I kept to the Newsprint DSP colours – Basic Black and Very Vanilla, except  I brightened the card up a little with some Riding Hood Red Striped Grosgrain ribbon.  Then I sponged around the edges of the DSP and the stamped tree with Basic Black to add a vintage look.  The sentiment came from the ever-handy Teeny Tiny Sentiments (a must-have stamp set).

Now, SU have a new product in the Summer Mini (you can click to see the catalogue on the right bar of this page) – and it’s the Gold Glow Smooch Spritz – which I LOVE!  I’ve been smooching everything, lol!  It’s a great effect.  This is a close-up of the gold smooching over the tree:

And this card took no more than 20 minutes to make – easy peasy!

Masculine Sense of Time

I made this card for my hopefully one-day-in-the-future brother-in-law.  He’s a builder, so something with mechanical workings seemed a good choice – so I chose Sense of Time.  The more I use this stamp set the more I love it!

I think the colours Crumb Cake, Early Espresso and Very Vanilla make a great masculine card – what do you think?  I haven’t added any accessories to the card but I have sponged all the edges in Crumb Cake.

The sentiment is from Party This Way, which I stamped in Early Espresso on some Very Vanilla and then punched out with the Large Oval punch.  I then layered the sentiment with cardstock punched using my Designer Label punch and my 1 3/8″ Large Circle punch.

My brother’s birthday and LAST DAY RIBBON BUNDLE

Well, this month has been FULL!!  Have you found that too?  What is it about Spring and September? LOL!

Anyway, at the beginning of the month it was my brother’s birthday.  We had a fun night out with him and his wife’s family, although our kids were a bit overexcited by the end of the evening!!  This is the card I made for him.

You know, I think this is the first time I’ve ever used Brilliant Blue cardstock!  But WOW, this colour combo really impressed me – Very Vanilla, Close to Cocoa and Brilliant Blue.  The inspiration for the card came from Live Laugh and Stamp with Karen here … what a gorgeous card!  Thanks, Karen 🙂

All of the Very Vanilla cardstock you see is textured cardstock, which I’m addicted to!  I’ve used the stamp set, Think Happy Thoughts, such a versatile set!  And then I’ve paper pierced the middle strip with my mat pack.  The big star brad is from the Star Designer Brads, which are a quality bargain at only $11.25!!

And it’s the LAST DAY of September, already!  Which means it is the LAST DAY for Stampin’ Up!’s Gift with Purchase Promotion EXCEPT customers have outperformed even Stampin’ Up!’s most optimistic estimates, and Stampin’ Up! have RUN OUT of inventory of this special item.

100RibbonGift

Dad’s 60th Birthday

Well, this year my Dad turned 60!  Dad doesn’t live nearby and he is visiting at the moment, so I can now show you the birthday card I made for him.

I really wanted to try and make a masculine card … meaning no flowers!  That is a challenge!  Instead, I went with a stars theme … cause my Dad’s a star! hehe!  Plus I stuck to mostly neutral colours with Basic Black, Copper and Very Vanilla … with a dash of Soft Sky and Tempting Turquoise.

The stamps I used were Classic Stars jumbo wheel with the Large Star and Star punches, Wonderful Favourites and Best Friends Numbers.  I also remembered to use my Hodgepodge hardware for once!  That was nice!  I love the Soft Sky ribbon too … I couldn’t help putting ribbon on the card.  Sorry Dad! hehe!

If you’re not familiar with Faux Stitching, I recommend you join my newsletter group.  This months’ newsletter contained a tutorial on this great effect.  So simple!
